Vida Scissors
Pruning scissors inspired by nature's own geometry.
Brief
The challenge was to design a pruning scissor that felt intuitive, organic, and visually connected to the natural world it interacts with. Most pruning tools prioritize function over form, leaving them cold and industrial. Vida was born from the question: what if the tool itself looked like it belonged in the garden?
Concept
Vida draws from two main references: the silhouette of a leaf and the precision of a bird's beak. Both shapes share a common language — pointed, elegant, purposeful. The handle follows the natural curve of the hand while its form echoes a leaf's outline, creating a visual and functional harmony that makes the object feel alive even when at rest.
Creative Process
The design started with a series of quick sketches exploring different organic shapes and grip configurations. From there, rough prototypes were built using cardboard and clay to test proportions and how the form felt in the hand.
3D Development
Once the proportions were validated, the design was translated into a full 3D model. Digital modeling allowed for precise refinement of every curve and detail, ensuring the organic shape remained consistent from every angle.
Prototyping
Cardboard defined the scale, clay refined the grip and curvature. The PLA print was the final filter — putting geometry, ergonomics and weight distribution to the test before closing the design.
Final Product Visualization
Form meets function. Vida in its final state.
